「not just tools like hammers … most inanimate objects that we encounter in our everyday lives are disclosed in the first instance as available」——太阳可用来看时间,河与风用于动力,山可用作采石场,林可用作木材。
他明确说这些 never offered as an exhaustive list……other kinds of being include: life, numbers, and perhaps nature。
「thus as constituted by our relationships to the practical and social contexts that give meaning to our actions」+他批的正是「post-Cartesian accounts of human beings as subjects in an objective world」。
世界的可理解性首先由「socially-shared aims, norms, tastes, and standards」构成——「because in grasping this intelligibility, we act as anyone would」。
「This way of being a self disburdens us of the responsibility of choice」——「
畏里 that mattering collapses,世界的可用性显为 of no consequence——畏不是怕某个东西,是整个都不重要了。
而剩下的:「even when all else fails we still care about our being」——一切都脱落之后,剩下「我还在乎我存在」。
「one is never in control of one's own being from the ground up」+「We cannot determine or control biological or cultural factors that constrain the possibilities available to us」
我们总发现自己已被塞了一堆没选过的偏好、倾向、性格;「we can only choose on the basis of other preferences and dispositions that … we did not choose」。
「one can authentically understand and choose among the factical possibilities lying ahead of that possibility which is not to be outstripped(death)」
